About Us

HandKnits originally opened its doors in a New Jersey loft back in 2000. Several moves later, we landed in the quaint river town of Brattleboro, Vermont. Since 2011, when the shop was destroyed by the remnants of tropical storm, Irene, we’ve worked hard to restore it to its previous functionality as a friendly community gathering place for local fiber arts enthusiasts.

Store owner, Beth Leggiere, has been involved in fiber and needle arts since she was 7 years old. She is an expert knitter and crocheter, in addition to being skilled in sewing, embroidery, weaving, and spinning. Beth and the patient, knowledgeable staff here at Handknits are passionate about helping customers succeed at fiber arts! To that end, they’re committed to offering:

  • Exceptional product quality and variety (yarns range from workhorse yarns to fine hand dyed fibers and locally made yarns, plus we offer an assortment of needles and accessories, looms, and more)
  • A wide range of classes and store events, including open knitting sessions each Thursday evening
  • Frequent buyer program
  • Prompt shipping (most orders ship within one business day)
  • Personalized assistance and ongoing support

Drop by the store at 56 Elliot St. and see why, after many years of change (and a few unexpected hiccups), we’re still Brattleboro’s favorite destination yarn and knitting shop. We look forward to guiding you through your fiber crafting journey!
